"Are you someone who has made a 'starter' with the desire to make sourdough bread? Then, as you maintain it week after week, you must have thought, 'What a waste, isn't it?' But would you believe me if I told you that you could make a cake that would make the whole kitchen smell good and your mouth water with these discarded foods? Today, we are going to talk about how to make a very soft Sourdough Discard Apple Bread, which combines the natural sourness of sourdough, the sweetness of fresh apples, and the aroma of cinnamon. You must try this wonderful recipe that you can enjoy while drinking a cup of tea in the afternoon without wasting any food!"

Here's how to easily make a delicious, soft, and fragrant apple bread at home, perfect for tea time, without throwing away the flour mixture that is discarded when maintaining the sourdough starter.

Preparation time: 15 minutes

Baking time: 50 minutes

Total time: 1 hour 5 minutes

Ingredients:-

For the apple mixture:

Finely chopped fresh apples: 1 1/2 cups (peeled or not).

Brown sugar (or white sugar): 2 tablespoons.

Cinnamon powder: 1 teaspoon.

For the cake/bread mix:

All-purpose flour: 1 1/2 cups.

Baking powder: 1 teaspoon.

Baking soda: 1/2 teaspoon.

Salt: 1/2 teaspoon.

Melted butter or coconut oil: 1/2 cup.

Brown sugar (or white sugar): 3/4 cup.

Eggs: 2.

Sourdough discard: 1/2 cup.

Vanilla essence: 1 teaspoon.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Oven

First, preheat your oven to 175 degrees Celsius (350°F). Grease a regular loaf pan with a little butter and line it with baking paper.

Step 2: Prepare the Apple Mixture

Take a bowl and add the chopped apple pieces, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder, mix well and set aside.

Step 3: Mix the Dry Ingredients

In another bowl, add the bread flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt and sift through a sieve.

Step 4: Mix the Wet Ingredients

Take a large bowl and add the melted butter and sugar (3/4 cup) and whisk well.  Then add the eggs one at a time and mix. Finally, add the sourdough starter and vanilla and beat until smooth.

Step 5: Mixing Everything Together

Now, add the dry flour mixture that we prepared earlier to the wet mixture and fold it in very lightly with a spatula. (Do not overmix). Then add 3/4 of the apple mixture that we prepared earlier and mix it in.

Step 6: Baking

Pour the prepared mixture into the loaf pan and level the surface. Sprinkle the remaining apple mixture on top. Place on the middle shelf of the oven and bake for 45-55 minutes. If a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean, it is done.

Step 7: Turning and Serving

Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then remove and cut into pieces after it has cooled completely and serve with tea or coffee.

Chef's Tips

Apple type: Using firm apples like Granny Smith or Gala will help keep the apple pieces crisp when baked.

Storage: This can be kept in an airtight container at room temperature for 2 days or in the refrigerator for 5 days.
